Dr. Michael Rees is Professor and Vice-Chair of Urology and Director of Renal Transplantation at the University of Toledo Medical Center and CEO of the Alliance for Paired Donation, Inc (APD). Dr. Rees helped to introduce the concept of Nonsimultaneous Extended Altruistic Donor chains of kidney transplants that has become the most common method of creating kidney paired donation (KPD) transplants. In 2006, he founded the APD, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization that now has over 80 participating transplant centers in 30 states and has arranged transplants for over 240 patients. In addition to kidney paired donation, his other research interests include immunosuppression and xenotransplantation.
